As you board your plane at the Melbourne airport, take your seat and check out the people around you, do you ever wonder where they are going? Just like you, they're in their best business attire, so they must be going to see a client. But once they get off the plane, they're gone.
According to the Global Business Travel Association (GBTA), the total spend of travel around the entire world reached a record-breaking US $1.2 trillion in 2015, and is expected to grow to $1.4 trillion by 2020.
The Melbourne airport takes guests to destinations not just across Australia, but around the world. So just where are these people going? They might just be bopping up to Sydney for the day, or maybe Sydney is just a layover to somewhere more exotic. Today, we are going to look at some of the most common business travel destinations around the world.
1. China
In China, the GBTA has business travel spend at $291,276 billion. Of course, Beijing is the most popular city to do business in as it is a major global super power that companies of all sizes want to have ties with.
2. United States
The States came in second in overall spend at $289,837 billion. There are quite a few big cities here, but you probably won't be shocked to learn that in the US, New York City, New York is the most visited business destination.
3. Germany
Third on the GBTA's list was Germany at $63,534 billion. Germany is the largest national economy in Europe, after all. And, chances are, if you're going to Germany for work, you're going to Berlin.
4. Japan
Japan sees its fair share of business travellers with total travel spend reaching $62,101 billion. Tokyo, the capital of Japan, is the hub of business activity in this country.
5. United Kingdom
Fifth on the list is the UK totaling $47,138 billion. And where else would people be going in the UK other than good old London? This city plays a big part in the world economy, but it's just as big for regular tourism, so hopefully you get a couple of days to run around and see the sights.
Other notable cities of travel
There are quite a few cities that topped the most travelled lists as well. Singapore, Bangkok, Paris and Dubai all topped several different travel reports.
Do any of these destinations line up with where you travel for business? If not, perhaps you should look into expanding into new markets! And don't forget – check your rates with us here at Pacific Airport Parking. No matter how long you are gone for, we will make sure your car is parked safely.
