5 tips to stay fit while you travel

Travelling to faraway countries can quench your thirst for new experiences like nothing else. However, when you are in the habit of eating healthy and working out regularly, the thought of travelling can be anything but tempting.

Not to fret – we've got five great tips on how to discover new places and stay fit at the same time:

1. These shoes were made for walking

One of the best ways to both experience a new city and get your step count in is to walk to as many places as possible. Not only will you save money on bus or taxi fares, but you can really make the most of your awesome new running shoes!

2. Pack well

Whilst it's unlikely that you'll want to carry heavy dumbbells with you on your travels, there's no reason you can't fit a jump rope in – even in a carry-on. And if you don't want to get your cardio in through jumping, a resistance band can get your muscles engaged.

3. Push hard in a short workout

If you'd rather save the space in your luggage for some souvenirs instead of packing tools, get into bodyweight workouts. By simply getting up that little bit earlier than your travel companions, you can get quick, high-intensity circuit training done before the rest of the crew open their eyes.

For a full-body workout, do some jumping jacks, pushups, planks, squats and crunches to get your metabolism going before breakfast.

4. Really do use the hotel gym

If you know that you're not going to get the right exercise in without equipment, make sure to book a hotel with a gym. That way you have no excuse to neglect your weight session, even in a different country.

5. Take time to relax

Whilst it's important to stick to your routines, you also need to take time to de-stress and enjoy the time away from home. Yes, you should try to stick to healthy meals for most of the time, but remember to also indulge in a few treats every now and again!

Organising a holiday holiday involves a lot of planning, from where you're going to eat to what sites you're going to visit. But do you know what car parking at Melbourne airport you'll use?
