How to avoid getting SAD this winter

Have you ever experienced SAD before? We're not talking about sad in the sense that you're feeling a bit blue – we're talking about seasonal affective disorder (SAD). If you've noticed yourself getting inexplicably glum once the winter months come along, you aren't alone. Allow us to explain.

What is SAD?

It's winter in Melbourne, and that means the skies are grey, the temperatures are cold and the wind will chill you to the bone. It's arguably the worst weather in Australia. As such, people stay indoors more because, let's face it, it's an inconvenience to bundle up to go outside.

Seasonal affective disorder is a result of this grey weather and inactivity. If you're feeling SAD, your symptoms will most likely have you feeling tired and unmotivated to do things you'd otherwise normally enjoy. Some even have trouble sleeping and therefore experience agitation or have difficulty concentrating. SAD is a condition that many people experience each and every winter as they long for the summer sun again – but is it something they need to endure?

The winter can be a depressing time - but you can beat the sadness! The winter can be a depressing time – but you can beat the sadness!

Can you beat SAD?

In other words, how can you get happy during wintertime? Well it's easy – go somewhere that isn't cold, of course!

Beating SAD means you need to get more light in your life. Sure, you can buy a couple more lamps to place around your house – but there are more exciting options.

Wouldn't you rather go somewhere new and exotic and sunny?

Travelling can help you overcome SAD in a number of ways. In general, going on a holiday is a great way to help defeat depression. It gives you something to look forward to – a literal light at the end of the tunnel. Of course, stepping out of your comfort zone, trying new things and meeting new people is also a great way to revitalise your normal routine. Plus, it will give you a chance to sleep in and catch up on some shut eye that you may have missed this winter.

So where will you go? There are tonnes of exciting new places to explore! When you fly out of Melbourne airport you don't have to stress about how you're going to get there. Simply drive to the Pacific Airport Parking area, drop your car off with us and take the shuttle to your terminal! We'll make sure your car is parked in a safe place while you're away so you can void those anxious feelings entirely and just enjoy your sunny destination!
